1. Important
This electronic user’s guide is intended for
anyone who uses the Philips monitor. Take time
to read this user manual before you use your
monitor. It contains important information and
notes regarding operating your monitor.
The Philips guarantee applies provided the
product is handled properly for its intended use,
in accordance with its operating instructions and
upon presentation of the original invoice or cash
receipt, indicating the date of purchase, dealer’s
name and model and production number of the
product.
1.1 Safety precautions and
maintenance
Warnings
Use of controls, adjustments or procedures

may result in exposure to shock, electrical
hazards and/or mechanical hazards.
Read and follow these instructions when
connecting and using your computer monitor.
Operation
Please Keep the monitor out of direct
sunlight, very strong bright lights and away
from any other heat source. Lengthy
exposure to this type of environment may
result in discoloration and damage to the
monitor.
Remove any object that could fall into
ventilation holes or prevent proper cooling
of the monitor’s electronics.
Do not block the ventilation holes on the
cabinet.
When positioning the monitor, make
sure the power plug and outlet are easily
accessible.
If turning off the monitor by detaching the
power cable or DC power cord, wait for 6
seconds before attaching the power cable
or DC power cord for normal operation.
Please use approved power cord provided
by Philips all the time. If your power cord
is missing, please contact with your local
service center. (Please refer to Customer
Care Consumer Information Center)
Do not subject the monitor to severe
vibration or high impact conditions during
operation.
Do not knock or drop the monitor during
operation or transportation.
Maintenance
To protect your monitor from possible
damage, do not put excessive pressure
on the LCD panel. When moving your
monitor, grasp the frame to lift; do not lift
the monitor by placing your hand or fingers
on the LCD panel.
Unplug the monitor if you are not going to
use it for an extensive period of time.
Unplug the monitor if you need to clean it
with a slightly damp cloth. The screen may
be wiped with a dry cloth when the power
is off. However, never use organic solvent,
such as, alcohol, or ammonia-based liquids
to clean your monitor.
To avoid the risk of shock or permanent
damage to the set, do not expose the
monitor to dust, rain, water, or excessive
moisture environment.
If your monitor gets wet, wipe it with dry
cloth as soon as possible.
If foreign substance or water gets in
your monitor, please turn the power off
immediately and disconnect the power
cord. Then, remove the foreign substance
or water, and send it to the maintenance
center.
Do not store or use the monitor in
locations exposed to heat, direct sunlight or
extreme cold.
In order to maintain the best performance
of your monitor and use it for a longer
lifetime, please use the monitor in a
location that falls within the following
temperature and humidity ranges.

Important information for Burn-in/Ghost
image
Always activate a moving screen saver
program when you leave your monitor
unattended. Always activate a periodic
screen refresh application if your monitor
will display unchanging static content.
Uninterrupted display of still or static
images over an extended period may cause
“burn in”, also known as “after-imaging” or
“ghost imaging”, on your screen.
“Burn-in”, “after-imaging”, or “ghost imaging”
is a well-known phenomenon in LCD panel
technology. In most cases, the “burned in”
or “after-imaging” or “ghost imaging” will
disappear gradually over a period of time
after the power has been switched off.
Warning
Failure to activate a screen saver, or a periodic
screen refresh application may result in severe
“burn-in” or “after-image” or “ghost image”
symptoms that will not disappear and cannot be
repaired. The damage mentioned above is not
covered under your warranty.
Service
The casing cover should be opened only by
qualified service personnel.
If there is any need for any document for
repair or integration, please contact with
your local service center. (please refer to
the chapter of “Consumer Information
Center”)
For transportation information, please refer
to “Technical Specifications”.
Do not leave your monitor in a car/trunk
under direct sun light.
Note
Consult a service technician if the monitor
does not operate normally, or you are not sure
what procedure to take when the operating
instructions given in this manual have been
followed.

Description of the On Screen Display
What is On-Screen Display (OSD)?
On-Screen Display (OSD) is a feature in all
Philips LCD monitors. It allows an end user to
adjust screen performance or select functions
of the monitors directly through an on-screen
instruction window. A user friendly on screen
display interface is shown as below:

This monitor is designed for optimal
performance at its native resolution, 1920
× 1080 @ 60 Hz. When the monitor is
powered on at a different resolution, an
alert is displayed on screen: Use 1920 ×
1080 @ 60 Hz for best results.
Display of the native resolution alert can be
switched off from Setup in the OSD (On
Screen Display) menu.

VESA Mounting
Before you start disassembling the monitor
base, please follow the instructions below to
avoid any possible damage or injury.
1. Place the monitor face down on a smooth
surface. Pay attention not to scratch or
damage the screen.
2. Remove the screws from hinge cover.
Note
This monitor accepts a 100mm x 100mm
VESA-Compliant mounting interface.

What is it?
SmartImage provides presets that optimize
display for different types of content,
dynamically adjusting brightness, contrast, color
and sharpness in real time. Whether you're
working with text applications, displaying images
or watching a video, Philips SmartImage delivers
great optimized monitor performance.
Why do I need it?
You want a monitor that delivers optimized
display all your favorite types of content,
SmartImage software dynamically adjust
brightness, contrast, color and sharpness in
real time to enhance your monitor viewing
experience.
How does it work?
SmartImage is an exclusive, leading edge Philips
technology that analyzes the content displayed
on your screen. Based on a scenario you select,
SmartImage dynamically enhances the contrast,
color saturation and sharpness of images to
enhance the contents being displayed - all in
real time with the press of a single button.
How to enable SmartImage?
1. Press to launch the SmartImage on
screen display.
2. Keep pressing to toggle among 2IÀFH

3. The SmartImage on screen display will
remain on screen for 5 seconds, or you can

3.3 Philips SmartControl Premium
The new SmartControl Premium software
by Philips allows you to control your monitor

Installation
Follow the instruction and complete the
installation.
You can launch after installation is
completed.
If you want to launch later, you can either
click the shortcut on desktop or toolbar.
First launch -Wizard
The first time after installation of
SmartControl Premium, it will automatically
go to Wizard for first time launch.
The wizard will guide you through
adjustment your monitor performance step
by step.
You can go to Plug-in menu to launch
wizard later on as well.

You can adjust more options without
wizard by Standard pane.
Start with Standard pane
Adjust menu
Adjust Menu allows you to adjust
Brightness, Contrast, and Resolution.
You can follow the instruction and do the
adjustment.
Cancel prompts user if you want to cancel
installation.
Color menu
Color Menu allows you to adjust RGB,
Black Level, White Point, Display Gamma,
Calibration, SmartImage, and SmartKolor.
You can follow the instruction and do the
adjustment.
Refer to below table for sub-menu item
base on your input.
Example for Color Calibration.

1. "Show Me" starts color calibration tutorial.
2. Start - starts the 6-step color calibration
sequence.
3. Quick View loads the before/after images.
4. To return to Color home pane, click the
Cancel button.
5. Enable color calibration - by default is on.
If unchecked, does not allow for color
calibration to happen, dimes out start and
quick view buttons.
6. Must have patent info in calibration screen.

Previous button is disabled until the second
color screen.
Next goes to the succeeding target
(6-targets).
Final next goes File > Presets pane.
Cancel closes the UI and returns to the
plug in page.
SmartImage
Allow users to change setting for better display
setting based on content.
When Entertainment is set, SmartContrast and
SmartResponse are enabled.
Eco Power menu
Options menu
Options>Preferences - Will only be active
when selecting Preferences from the drop-
down Options menu. On a non-supported
display capable of DDC/CI, only the Help and
Options tabs are available.
Displays current preference settings.
A checked box enables the feature. The
check box is a toggle.
Enable Context Menu on desktop is
checked (On) by default. Enable Context
menu displays SmartControl Premium
selections for Select Preset and Tune

Premium from the right click context menu.
Enable Task Tray icon is checked (On) by
default. Enable context menu shows the
task tray menu for SmartControl Premium.
A right click on the task tray icon displays
the menu options for Help, Technical
Support. Check for Update, About, and Exit.
When Enable task tray menu is disabled,
the task tray icon will only display Exit.
Run at Startup is checked (On) by default.
When disabled, SmartControl Premium
will not launch at start or be in the task
tray. The only way to launch SmartControl
Premium is either from the desktop short
cut or from the program file. Any preset
set to run at startup will not load when
this box is unchecked (Disabled).
Enable transparency mode (Windows 7,
Vista, XP). Default is 0% Opaque.
Options>Audio - Will only be active when
selecting Volume from the drop-down Options
menu.
On a non-supported display capable of DDC/
CI, only the Help and Options tabs are available.
Option>Auto Pivot.
Options>Input - Will only be active when
selecting Input from the drop-down Options
menu. On a non-supported display capable of
DDC/CI, only the Help and Options tabs are
available. All other SmartControl Premium tabs
are not available.
Display the Source instruction pane and
current input source setting.
On single input displays, this pane will not
be visible.

Pane will only be active when selecting Theft
Deterrence Mode from the drop-down Plug-in
menu.

To enable Theft Deterrence, click on On button
to bring up the following screen:
User can enter PIN between 4 and 9 digits
numbers only.
After entering PIN, Accept button takes
user to the pop-up dialog box on the
following page.
Minimum minutes set to 5. Slider set to 5
by default.
Does not require the display be attached
to a different host to go into Theft
Deterrence mode.
After creating PIN, the Theft Deterrence pane
will indicate Theft Deterrence Enabled and
provide PIN Options button:
Theft Deterrence Enabled is displayed.
Disable Theft Deterrence Mode opens
pane screen on next page.
PIN Options button only available after
user creates PIN, button opens secure PIN
web site.
Help menu

Context Sensitive menu
The Context Sensitive menu is Enabled by
default. If Enable Context Menu has been
checked in the Options>Preferences pane, then
the menu will be visible.

The Context Menu has four entries:

menu of saved presets for immediate use.
A check mark shows the currently selected
preset. Factory Preset can also be called
from the drop-down menu.

Premium control panel.
v SmartImage - Check current settings: Off,
Office, Photo, Movie, Game, Economy.
Task Tray Menu Enabled
The task tray menu can be displayed by right-
clicking on the SmartControl Premium icon
from the task tray. Left Click will launch the
application.

3.4 SmartDesktop Guide
SmartDesktop
SmartDesktop is in SmartControl Premium.
Install SmartControl Premium and select
SmartDesktop from Options.
Align to partition check box will enable
automatic alignment for the window when
dragged into the defined partition.
Select the desired partition by clicking on
the icon. The partition will be applied
to the desktop and the icon will be
highlighted.
Identify provides a quick way to view the
grid.
Drag and Drop Windows

Title Bar Options
Desktop partition can be accessed from the title
bar of the active window. This provides a quick
and easy way to manage the desktop as well as
sending any window to any partition without
having to drag and drop. Move the cursor into
the active window’s title bar to access the drop
down menu.
Right Click Menu
Right click on the Desktop Partition icon to
view the drop down menu.
1. Find Windows – In some cases, the user
may have sent multiple windows to the same
partition. Find Window will show all open
windows and move the selected window to
the forefront.
2. Desktop Partition – Desktop Partition shows
the current selected partition and allows the
user to quickly change to any of the partitions
shown in the drop down.
Note
If more than one display is attached, the user
can select the targeted display to change the
partition. The highlighted icon represents the
current active partition.
3. Identify Partition – Displays the outline grid

4. Align On/Align Off – Enables/disables the
drag and drop auto align feature.
5. Exit – Closes Desktop Partition and Display
Tune. To re-initialize, launch Display Tune from

4. PowerSensor™

How does it work?
PowerSensor works on principle of
transmission and reception of harmless
“infrared” signals in order to detect user-
presence.
When the user is in front of the monitor
the monitor operates normally, at the
predetermined settings that the user has
set- i.e. Brightness, contrast, color, etc
Assuming that the monitor was set to
100% of brightness for example, when the
user leaves his seat and is no longer in front
of the monitor, the monitor automatically
reduces the power consumption down to
80%.

At its default setting, (Setting 3), PowerSensor
is designed to detect the presence of the user
located between 30 and 100 cm (12 and 40

How to adjust settings
If PowerSensor is not operating correctly
inside or outside the default range, here’s how
to fine-tune detection:
Press the PowerSensor hot key
You will find the default position ‘3’ on the
adjustment bar.
Adjust the PowerSensor detection
adjustment to Setting 4 and press OK.
Test the new setup to see if PowerSensor
properly detects you in your current
position.
PowerSensor function is designed to work
in Landscape mode (horizontal position)
only. After PowerSensor turn on it, it will
automatically turn Off if the monitor is
used in Portrait mode (90 degree/vertical
position); it will automatically turn ON if
monitor is returned to its default Landscape
position.
Note
A manually selected PowerSensor mode
will remain operational unless and until it is
readjusted or the default mode is recalled. If

sensitive to nearby motion for some reason,

Philips ErgoSensor is an innovative technology that advises users on how to sit in an ergonomically
correct position at their computer. It uses a built-in sensor in the monitor to sense and measure the
user’s behavior in terms of presence, posture and usage and then gives feedback for corrective actions.

Turn on your PC and make sure your
internet connection is working properly.
Download and enable free online chatting
software such as Skype, Internet Messenger,
or equivalent. You can also subscribe
to dedicated software in case of more
sophisticated usage like multi conferencing,
etc.
The webcam is ready to be used for chat
or make the phone call through internet
service.
Make the call by following the instruction of
the software program.
Note
To set up a video call, you must have a reliable
Internet connection, an ISP, and software like
Internet messenger or video phone call program.
Make sure the person that you are calling has
compatible video-calling software. The video
and audio performance quality depends on the
bandwidth available on both ends. The person

Types of Pixel Defects
Pixel and sub pixel defects appear on the screen
in different ways. There are two categories of
pixel defects and several types of sub pixel
defects within each category.
Bright Dot Defects
Bright dot defects appear as pixels or sub pixels
that are always lit or 'on'. That is, a bright dot is
a sub-pixel that stands out on the screen when
the monitor displays a dark pattern. There are
the types of bright dot defects.
One lit red, green or blue sub pixel.
Two adjacent lit sub pixels:
- Red + Blue = Purple
- Red + Green = Yellow
- Green + Blue = Cyan (Light Blue)
Three adjacent lit sub pixels (one white pixel).

10.1 Philips’ Flat Panel Monitors Pixel
Defect Policy
Philips strives to deliver the highest quality
products. We use some of the industry's most
advanced manufacturing processes and practice
stringent quality control. However, pixel or
sub pixel defects on the TFT Monitor panels
XVHGLQÁDWSDQHOPRQLWRUVDUHVRPHWLPHV
unavoidable. No manufacturer can guarantee
that all panels will be free from pixel defects,
but Philips guarantees that any monitor with an
unacceptable number of defects will be repaired
or replaced under warranty. This notice explains
WKHGLIIHUHQWW\SHVRISL[HOGHIHFWVDQGGHÀQHV
acceptable defect levels for each type. In order
to qualify for repair or replacement under
warranty, the number of pixel defects on a TFT
Monitor panel must exceed these acceptable
levels. For example, no more than 0.0004% of
the sub pixels on a monitor may be defective.
Furthermore, Philips sets even higher quality
standards for certain types or combinations
of pixel defects that are more noticeable than
others. This policy is valid worldwide.

A pixel, or picture element, is composed of
three sub pixels in the primary colors of red,
green and blue. Many pixels together form an
image. When all sub pixels of a pixel are lit, the
three colored sub pixels together appear as a

Make sure the power cord is plugged into
the power outlet and into the back of the

different one and the SmartControl
Premium becomes un-usable, what do
I do?
Ans.: Restart your PC and see if
SmartControl Premium can work.
Otherwise, you will need to remove
and re-install SmartControl Premium to
ensure proper driver is installed.
Q2. The SmartControl Premium functions
worked well before, but it does not
work anymore, what can I do?
Ans.: If the following actions were executed,
the monitor driver may need to be re-
installed.
Changed video graphic adapter to another
one
Updated video driver
Activities on OS, such as service pack or
patch
Run Windows Update and updated
monitor and/or video driver
Windows was booted with the monitor

To find out, please right click My Computer

Ans.: It might be your graphic adaptor is not
compatible with the SmartControl
Premium. If your graphic adaptor is one
of the above mentioned brands, try to
download the most updated graphic
adaptor driver from corresponding
companies’ web site. Install the driver.
Remove SmartControl Premium, and
re-install it once more.
If it is still not working, we are sorry that
the graphic adaptor is not supported.
Please visit Philips website and check
if an updated SmartControl Premium
driver is available.
Q4. When I click on Product Information,
only partial information is shown, what
happened?
Ans.: It might be your graphic card adaptor
driver is not the most updated
version which fully supporting DDC/
CI interface. Please try to download
the most updated graphic adaptor
driver from corresponding companies’
web site. Install the driver. Remove
SmartControl Premium and re-install it

11.3 General FAQs
Q1: When I install my monitor what should
I do if the screen shows 'Cannot
display this video mode'?
Ans.: Recommended resolution for this
monitor: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz.
Unplug all cables, then connect your PC to
the monitor that you used previously.
In the Windows Start Menu, select Settings/
Control Panel. In the Control Panel
Window, select the Display icon. Inside the
Display Control Panel, select the 'Settings'
tab. Under the setting tab, in box labelled
'desktop area', move the sidebar to 1920 x
1080 pixels.
Open 'Advanced Properties' and set the
Refresh Rate to 60 Hz, then click OK.
Restart your computer and repeat step 2
and 3 to verify that your PC is set at 1920
x 1080 @ 60 Hz.
Shut down your computer, disconnect your
old monitor and reconnect your Philips
LCD monitor.
Turn on your monitor and then turn on

'Reset' to recall all of the original factory
settings.
Q6: Is the LCD screen resistant to
scratches?
Ans.: In general it is recommended that
the panel surface is not subjected to
excessive shocks and is protected from
sharp or blunt objects. When handling
the monitor, make sure that there is
no pressure or force applied to the
panel surface side. This may affect your
warranty conditions.
Q7: How should I clean the LCD surface?
Ans.: For normal cleaning, use a clean, soft
cloth. For extensive cleaning, please use

Q8: Can I change the color setting of my
monitor?
Ans.: Yes, you can change your color setting
through OSD control as the following

Press "OK" to show the OSD (On Screen
Display) menu

"Color" then press "OK" to enter color
setting, there are three settings as below.
1. Color Temperature: The six settings are
5000K, 6500K, 7500K, 8200K, 9300K
and 11500K. With settings in the 5000K

ensuring correct exchange of colors
between different device (e.g. digital

Ans.: Yes.
Q2: Will it work if I wear dark glasses for
some reason?
Ans.: No, it requires 2 x eyes to be clearly
visible.
Q3: Will it work if I wear prescription glasses
for reading?
Ans.: Yes, standard, clear, prescription glasses
are OK to be recognized, as your eyes
are visible through the glasses.
Q4: What happens if I have “one eye patch”
due to some medical factor?
Ans.: It will not work correctly. It requires
2 x eyes to be detected to function
correctly.
Q5: Does it work if my face is partially
covered with cloth, hat, etc?'
Ans.: As long as it can clearly detect 2 x eyes,
it will work.
Q6: If I lean forward to read something on
my desk, will it work?
Ans.: As long as the sensor is able to detect
your eyes, it will work.
Q7: Does it work if I have a hat/cap/turban
on my head?
Ans.: As long as it can clearly detect 2 x eyes
continuously, it will work.
Q8: What happens if I turn my monitor into
portrait/ 90 degree mode?
Ans.: ErgoSensor function will disable
automatically if you turn the monitor. It
will work only in the default landscape
mode.
Q9: Will it work if I turn the monitor away
from my face?
Ans.: No, you must be facing the monitor in
the standard position- front of screen.
Q10: What happens if I have 2 or more
colleagues also reading my screen?
Ans.: While it can detect more than one
face, it will “recognize” the face directly
in front of the screen and closest to it,
deeming it to be the principle user. All
functions will be activated based on the
principle face that it has detected.

Q11: What is the optimum distance from my
eyes to the Monitor screen?
Ans.: 80 cm is the optimal distance for
comfortable reading. The sensor will
advise you if you are > 90cm and <
70cm for distance activation.
Q12: What is the optimum neck angle for
stress-free reading?
Ans.: The best neck angle is “straight neck!” If
your posture is detected with a neck
angle tilted more than 15 degrees for
a pre-determined time, the sensor will
advise you to correct it.
Q13: Can I change my time break activation
timing?
Ans.: No, the ideal time break is deemed to
be at about an hour at which interval
the sensor will advise you to take time
break.
Q14: I cannot take a time-break now, I have
lots of work. What happens in that
case?
Ans.: The sensor has detected you working for
more than one hour. Once you get up
from your chair, the sensor will reset
itself and will re-start the count again
once it detects you back on the seat.
Time break is for your own good!
Q15: When does the power saving function
work?
Ans.: a. User detected on seat, monitor
operates normally.
b. If user is not detected on seat, monitor
brightness dims after 1 minute, saving
power.
c. Monitor turns off after 3 minutes,
and then enters standby mode, saving
power
d. User returns to the seat, ErgoSensor
returns monitor to normal operation
immediately.
Q16: How is it different from my Philips
PowerSensor monitor?
Ans.: ErgoSensor is a more advanced sensor
which actually uses a CMOS-sensor
that recognizes people and their
presence or absence and is more
accurate. PowerSensor uses infra-red
signals to detect presence or absence
and activates itself.
Q17: Can I turn the ErgoSensor off?
Ans.: Yes.
Q18: Can I turn individual functions off?
Ans.: No.
Q19: Does it require software installation?
Ans.: No, it is built in the monitor. You do not
need to install anything.
Q20: The ErgoSensor module looks like a
camera. Does it record anything? Can
someone “see” me or “track” me? What
about my privacy?!!
Ans.: No, neither it can record, nor
communicate. The sensor is an
independent, hardware based CMOS
low resolution camera which detects
you and then uses powerful algorithms
to give you corrective advice. It has no
data transfer capability to and from the
computer.
