3 Connect
Place the unit
1 Place the unit near the TV.
2 Place the left and right speakers at equal
distance from the TV and at an angle
of approximately 45 degrees from the
listening position.
3 Place the subwoofer at the corner of the
room or at least one meter away from the
TV.

• To avoid magnetic interference or unwanted noise,
never place both the main set and speakers too close
to any radiation devices.
• Place this unit on top of a table.
• Never place this unit in an enclosed cabinet.
• Place this unit near the AC outlet where the AC power
plug can be easily reached.
Connect speakers
Note
• For optimal sound, use the supplied speakers only.
• Connect only speakers with impedance that is the
same or higher than the supplied speakers. Refer to the

• Make sure that the colors of the speaker wires and
terminals are matched.
Insert the wire completely.
• Insert the right speaker wires to
"R", left speaker wires to "L", and

Connect video cables
Select the best video connection that the TV
can support.
• Option 1: Connect to the HDMI socket
(for an HDMI, DVI or HDCP-compliant
TV).
• Option 2: Connect to the composite
video socket (for a standard TV).

1 Connect an HDMI cable (not supplied) to:
• the HDMI socket on the unit.

Tip
• If the TV has a DVI connector only, connect via an
HDMI/DVI adaptor. Connect an audio cable for sound
output.
• If this product connects to a TV compatible with 1080p
or 1080p/24Hz, we recommends HDMI category
2 cable, also known as High Speed HDMI cable, for
optimal video and audio output.
• To play the digital video images of a DVD video via an
HDMI connection, it is necessary that both this product
DQGWKHGLVSOD\GHYLFHRUDQ$9UHFHLYHUDPSOLÀHU
support a copyright protection system called HDCP
(high-bandwidth digital content protection system).
• This type of connection provides the best picture
quality.

• For optimal reception, fully extend and adjust the
position of the antenna.
• For better FM stereo reception, connect an outdoor
FM antenna to the FM ANTENNA socket.
• The unit does not support MW radio reception.
• Connect the supplied FM wire antenna to
the FM ANTENNA socket on the back of
the unit.

Route audio from other devices
• Connect a 3.5mm audio cable (not
supplied) to:
• the 3.5mm audio input socket on the
front of the unit.
• the headphone socket on the MP3
player.
Tip
• Press FM/AUDIO IN repeatedly to select the AUDIO
IN source, then start play on the MP3 player (see the
player user manual).

Prepare the remote control
1 Press and push the battery compartment
to slide it open (see "1" in the illustration).
2 Insert one AAA battery with correct
polarity (+/-) as indicated.
3 Push and slide back the battery
compartment (see "3" in the illustration).

• The battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat

Install radio stations
automatically
When you connect power and no radio
stations are stored, the unit automatically begins
to store radio stations.

Find the correct viewing
channel
1 Press to turn on the unit.
2 Press DISC to switch to disc mode.
3 Turn on the TV and switch to the correct
video-in channel in one of the following
ways:
• Go to the lowest channel on your TV,
then press the Channel Down button
until you see the blue screen.
• Press the source button repeatedly on
the remote control of your TV.
Tip
• The video-in channel is between the lowest and highest
channels and may be called FRONT, A/V IN, VIDEO etc.
See the TV user manual on how to select the correct
input on the TV.
Select the correct TV system
Change this setting if the video is not displayed
correctly. By default, this setting matches the
most common setting for TVs in your country.
1 Press .
2 Select [Setup] ->[Video] -> [TV
System].
3 Select a setting and press OK.
• [PAL]- For TV with PAL color system.
• [Multi]- For TV that is compatible with
both PAL and NTSC.
• [NTSC]- For TV with NTSC color
system.
4 To return to the previous menu, press .
5 To exit the menu, press .
Change system menu
language
1 Press .
2 Select [Setup] -> [General] -> [OSD
Language], and press OK.
3 Select a setting and then press OK.

Play from a Bluetooth-
enabled device
Note
• The effective operation range between the unit and
your Bluetooth enabled device is approximately 10
meters (30 feet).
• Any obstacle between the unit and the Bluetooth
enabled device can reduce the operational range.
• Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not
guaranteed.
• The unit can memorize up to 4 previously connected
Bluetooth devices.
To enjoy music through the unit wirelessly, you
need to pair your Bluetooth enabled device
with the unit.

based on the preconditions listed below.

Pair and connect
Option 1: Pair and connect through NFC
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a
technology that enables short-range wireless
communication between various NFC
compatible devices, such as mobile phones and
IC tags.
With the NFC function, data communication
can be achieved easily just by touching the
relevant symbol or designated location on NFC
compatible devices.
Note
• Compatibility with all NFC devices is not guaranteed.
1 Enable the NFC feature on your Bluetooth
enabled device (see the user manual of the
device for details).
2 Touch the NFC area of the external device
with the NFC area on the top of the unit
until you hear a beep.
» After successful pairing and connection,
'BT CONNECTED' (BT connected)
scrolls on the screen once.

Option 2: Pair and connect manually
1 On the Bluetooth enabled device, search
for Bluetooth devices that can be paired
(see the user manual of the device).
2 Select 'Philips MINI FXD58' on your
Bluetooth enabled device and if necessary
input '0000' as the pairing password.
» After successful pairing and connection,
'BT CONNECTED' (BT connected)
scrolls on the screen once.
Stream music through Bluetooth
• Play audio on the Bluetooth device
connected to the unit.
» Audio streams from your Bluetooth
enabled device to the unit.
Tip
• If the Bluetooth enabled device also supports AVRCP
$XGLR9LGHR5HPRWH&RQWURO3URÀOH\RXFDQXVH
some basic operation buttons of the unit (such as the
play/pause, stop and previous/next buttons) to control
music play.
To disconnect the Bluetooth-enabled device:
• Press and hold on the remote control
for three seconds.
• Deactivate Bluetooth on your device; or

• Press and hold both on the remote
control for three seconds.
Play a disc
Caution
• Never look at the laser beam inside the unit.
• Risk of product damage! Never play discs with
accessories such as disc stabilizer rings or disc
treatment sheets.
• Never put any objects other than discs into the disc
compartment.
1 Press DISC to select the disc source.
2 Press EJECT on the front panel.
» The disc tray opens.
3 Place a disc onto the tray and press EJECT
again to close the disc tray.
» Make sure that the label side faces up.
4 If play does not start automatically, select a
title/chapter/track, then press to start
play.
• To stop play, press .
• To pause or resume play, press .
• To skip to the previous/next title/
chapter/track, press / .

• To play a locked DVD, enter the 6-digit parental control
password.

Select a subtitle language
You can select an audio language for a DVD or
DivX (Ultra) video.
1 During disc play, press OPTIONS
(MODE).
» An option menu appears.
2 Press / repeatedly to select [Subtitle],
then press OKWRFRQÀUP

3 Press / repeatedly to select a subtitle
language, then press OKWRFRQÀUP
Note
• For some DVDs, the language can only be changed
from the disc menu. Press , then select [Setup] to
access the menu.
Play from USB or recorded
discs
You can play DivX (Ultra)/MP3/JPEG picture

1 Select a source.
• For a USB storage device, press USB.
• For a disc, press DISC.
2 Insert the USB storage device or load the
disc.

Selects the default subtitle language for disc play.

• If the language you have set is not available on the disc,
the disc uses its own default language.
• For some discs, the subtitle/audio language can only be
changed from the disc menu.
• To select the languages that are not listed in the menu,
select [Others]. Then check the Language Code list at
the back of this user manual and enter the respective
4-digit language code.
[Parental Control]
Restricts access to discs that are unsuitable for
children. These types of discs must be recorded
with ratings.

10 Troubleshooting
Caution
• Never remove the casing of this apparatus.
To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair
the system yourself.
If you encounter problems when using this
apparatus, check the following points before
requesting service. If the problem remains
unsolved, go to the Philips web site (www.
Philips.com/support). When you contact Philips,
ensure that your apparatus is nearby and the
model number and serial number are available.
No power
•Make sure that the power cord of the unit
is connected properly.
•Make sure that there is power at the AC
outlet.
•If [Auto Standby] has been turned on, the
system switches off automatically after 15
minutes of inactivity (for example, in pause
or stop mode).
No disc detected
•Insert a disc.
•Check if the disc is inserted upside down.
•Wait until the moisture condensation at
the lens has cleared.
