1. Microphones Capture or record sound and voice.

2. Ambient light sensor The Ambient light sensor detects the environmental illuminance and

automatically adjusts the panel brightness and switches the keyboard

backlight on/off.

Notes:

• The antennas are not visible from the outside of the computer.

• If the location of the antennas is close to the user’s body (< 20 cm),

you can find the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values in the Setup

Guide that comes with your computer.

2. Keyboard Enter characters and interact with programs.

1. Thunderbolt™ 4 connector • Plug the ac power adapter into the Thunderbolt 4 connector to

provide power to the computer and charge the internal battery.

• Connect external display, storage, or data devices.

Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed for connecting

external devices.

2. Charging light Indicate whether the computer is connected to ac power.

• Solid white: Connected to ac power; battery capacity 91%–100%

1. USB-C connector (always-on) • Connect to power with the included power cord and ac power

adapter.

• Connect external display, storage, or data devices.

Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed for connecting

external devices.

• The always-on connector can charge external devices when the

computer is turned off, in sleep or hibernation mode. The always-

on function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Note: If Lenovo Vantage is pre-installed on your computer, you

can also set always-on function within that software.

2. Combo audio jack Connect to headphones or headsets with a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4-pole

plug.

Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If

you use headsets, choose one with a single plug.

3. Power button Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer into

sleep mode.

Note: You can turn on the computer by flipping open the LCD screen

if Flip to Boot is enabled.

4. Power light The power button has an integrated light to show the power status.

• On: The computer is turned on.

• Off: The computer is turned off or in hibernation mode.

• Blinking: The computer is in sleep mode.

5. USB-C connector (always-on) • Connect external storage or data devices.

Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed for connecting

external devices. This connector cannot be used to connect

external display devices.

• The always-on connector can charge external devices when the

computer is turned off, in sleep or hibernation mode. The always-

on function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Note: If Lenovo Vantage is pre-installed on your computer, you

Work with Windows

The following table contains Windows frequently used settings. You can learn the basics and start working

with Windows right away.

To configure settings, type the corresponding keywords in the Windows search box and select the best

match. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize settings.

Connect to Wi-Fi

For models with a wireless LAN module, you can connect your computer to

a Wi-Fi® network. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area,

and then select a network for connection.

Note: The wireless LAN module on your computer may support different

standards. For some countries or regions, use of 802.11ax may be disabled

according to local regulations.

Wi-Fi

Airplane mode Airplane mode is a convenient setting to turn all wireless communications of

your computer on and off. You may need to turn it on when boarding an

airplane.

Night light mode Night light is a switch in Windows that you can turn on and off. When it is

turned on, your screen shows warmer colors and the amount of emitted

blue light is reduced. Enabling night light reduces the chances of developing

eye fatigue or eye strain.

If night light mode is turned on, you can adjust the color temperature of the

screen.

Note: Selected Lenovo computers are low blue light certified. These

computers are tested with night light turned on and color temperature set to

the default value of 48.

Windows

Updates

Microsoft periodically releases feature and security updates to the Windows

operating system. Updates that are applicable to your Windows version are

downloaded automatically when your computer is connected to the

Internet. When updates are downloaded, you are prompted to restart the

computer to install these updates. You can also manually check if there are

available updates for the installed version of Windows.

Attention: Only use Windows Update to download and install updates.

Updates downloaded from other sources may include security risks.

• Type Get Help or Tips in the Windows search box and then press Enter. When the app opens, type the

problem description and select the matched result.

• Visit Microsoft support Web site: https://support.microsoft.com. Enter what you are looking for in the

search box and get search results.

Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager

They are both apps developed by Lenovo. Using either of them, you can:

• View product information and system status

• Manage and change device settings

• Check for and perform system update

Note: This feature is only available on Lenovo Vantage. In Lenovo PC Manager, you can check for and

perform driver update.

Depending on the country or region in which your computer is purchased, one of the apps may be pre-

installed on your computer. To open it, type its name in the Windows Search box and select the matched

result. If neither of the apps is pre-installed, you may install one on your own. Lenovo Vantage is available for

download free of charge from the Microsoft Store.

Note: App features are subject to change with updates and specific features may not be available on all

Lenovo products.

The Novo Button menu

The Novo Button menu can be displayed before the operating system starts. From the menu, you can

choose to

• Open the BIOS/UEFI setup utility

• Open the boot device selection menu

• Open the Windows startup options screen

From the Windows startup options screen, you can then choose to

• Continue: Exit and continue to Windows

• Use a device: Use a USB drive, network connection or Windows recovery DVD

• Troubleshoot: Reset your computer or see advanced options

• Turn off your PC

Open the Novo Button menu

For Lenovo computers with a Novo button, you can press the button to open the Novo Button menu.

Step 1. Turn off the computer.

Step 2. Open the LCD screen and press the Novo button.

Note: Alternatively, turn off the computer. Press Fn and the power button to open the Novo Button menu.

Interact with your computer

Keyboard hotkeys

Some keys on the keyboard are printed with icons. These keys are called hotkeys and can be pressed alone

or in combination with the Fn key to open certain apps or change certain settings quickly. The functions of

the hotkeys are symbolized by the icons printed on them.

Decrease/Increase system volume.

Mute/Unmute the microphone.

Decrease/Increase screen brightness.

Switch display devices.

Turn airplane mode on and off.

Open the Windows Settings app.

Lock the screen.

Display thumbnails of all open apps.

Open the Windows Calculator app.

Open Lenovo Vantage, Lenovo PC Manager, or an app launch bar.

Open the Windows screenshot tool.

Turn on/off or adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight.

Note: This hotkey must be used with the Fn key.

Hotkey mode

Some hotkeys share keys with function keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that

changes how hotkeys (or function keys) are used.

Note: Hotkeys that do not share keys with function keys are not affected by the hotkey mode setting. They

The FnLock switch

The FnLock is a switch that reverses the default and hidden function of a hotkey. The following table

provides an example of how the FnLock switch changes the default function of the F1 key.

Note: The F1 function is application-dependent. It may have no function if the active application does not

have a definition for the key.

The FnLock switch shares the ESC key (in the upper left corner of the keyboard). To turn it on or off, press Fn

+ ESC.

Intelligent features

Some Lenovo computers include a ToF sensor and an IR camera on top of the screen. Using data provided

by the ToF sensor and IR camera, the computer is able to behave like a human. It can detect your presence,

your movement, and perform operations automatically to protect your privacy, save battery power, or just

make your daily use of the computer easier. The following table provides an introduction to some of the

intelligent features and where you can set them up.

Note: You must use Windows Hello to set up

the screen opening angle. Improve lighting,

adjust the screen opening angle, or use

another sign-in option if you’re not signed in

automatically.

Note: Your computer may be pre-installed with either Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo PC Manager but not both.

The above listed features may not be enabled by default. You may need to enable these features in the

corresponding setup app.

Use Glance by Mirametrix

Glance by Mirametrix provides multiple functions, such as snap window, smart pointer, smart display and

privacy alert.

Open Glance by Mirametrix

You need to open Glance by Mirametrix to use the snap window and smart pointer feature.

Step 1. Enter the software name in Windows Search box.

Step 2. Select the matched result.

The software icon appears in the Windows notification area to indicate that the software is open.

Note: When the software is open, it takes up computer memory and may affect computer performance in

rare cases where available memory is limited. If you don’t need to use the Glance features, close the

software by right-clicking its icon and selecting Exit. On the settings page of the software, you can change

the Launch on Startup setting to enable or disable the software to start with Windows.

Disable or enable glance detection

You can temporarily disable glance detection if you are not using the related features.

Step 1. Open the console by clicking the Glance by Mirametrix icon in Windows notification area.

Step 2. Move the pointer over the calibration window.

Step 3. Click the window when the snooze icon appears.

To save battery power, you can turn on Snooze when unplugged or Snooze when no external monitors

on the software settings page.

Calibrate your head position

You can use the calibration window of Glance by Mirametrix to adjust your head position so that the ToF

sensor can better detect your head movement.

Step 1. Open the console by clicking the Glance by Mirametrix icon in the Windows notification area.The

calibration window is displayed on top of the console. Your head is represented by a shaded circle.

Step 2. Move your head or adjust the angle of the screen so that the shaded circle is positioned within the

outer ring.The background color of the calibration window changes during calibration. The green

color indicates that your head position is good and the sensor can detect your movement easily.

Note: If the background color is red, the sensor cannot detect your head movement.

Use smart pointer

When smart pointer is enabled, you can move the pointer between screens by simply moving your head.

Step 1. Connect an external display and set project mode to Extend.

Note: Smart pointer does not work in duplicate mode.

Step 2. Turn on Smart Pointer on the console of Glance by Mirametrix.

Step 3. Move your head sideways to move the pointer between displays.

Use snap window

When snap window is enabled, you can move application windows between screens.

Step 1. Connect an external display and set project mode to Extend.

Note: Snap window does not work in duplicate mode.

Step 2. Turn on Snap Window on the console of Glance by Mirametrix.

Step 3. Display the application window and make sure it is not maximized or minimized.

Note: Maximized or minimized windows cannot be moved.

Step 4. Holding down the title of the window, move your head sideways to move the application window.

Use smart display

Smart display allows the user to blur monitors not being looked at. Glance constantly monitors the direction

that the user is facing and only unblurs the monitor currently being faced. For monitors that Glance cannot

use, a manual toggle exists to blur and unblur.

Use privacy alert

Privacy alert is a shoulder surfing indicator which uses Glance to detect if multiple people are looking at the

screen. An icon on the screen appears to alert that someone is looking over the user’s shoulder. The privacy

alert icon will normally remain as long as more than one user is looking at the screen.

Eye care mode

Eye care mode intelligently adjusts the color temperature of the screen to filter blue light, which can

effectively reduce damage to the eyes, thus protecting the eyes. Eye care mode can be enabled or disabled

in Lenovo Vantage or the Lenovo PC Manager.

Super resolution (for selected models)

This feature enhances the playback experience by improving the video resolution with deep learning by using

the capabilities of Intel processors. It works especially well in cases where the source video has poor

resolution.

For most players, super resolution can be enabled or disabled in Lenovo Vantage or the Lenovo PC

Manager, but for KMPlayer and PotPlayer, you need to enable this feature manually.

KMPlayer

Step 1. Open Control Panel.

Step 2. Select Preferences ➙ Video Processing ➙ Video Renderer ➙ EVR.

PotPlayer

Show main menu and click Video ➙ Video Renderer ➙ EVR (Vista/.Net3).

Enable or disable Flip to Boot

If Flip to Boot is enabled, you can turn on the computer by flipping open the LCD screen.

Step 1. Open Lenovo Vantage.

Step 2. Click Device ➙ MY DEVICE SETTINGS ➙ Power settings ➙ Flip to boot to change the setting.

Note: You can also change the setting for Flip to Boot in Lenovo PC Manager, or open the UEFI/

BIOS setup utility and then select Configuration to change.

Manage power

Use the information in this section to achieve the best balance between performance and power efficiency.

Check the battery status

The battery status icon or is in the Windows notification area. You can check the battery status, view

the current power plan, and access battery settings quickly.

Click the battery status icon to display the percentage of battery power remaining and change the power

mode. A warning message is displayed when the battery is low.

Charge the battery

When the remaining battery power is low, charge your battery by connecting your computer to ac power.

The battery is fully charged in about two to four hours. The actual charging time depends on the battery

capacity, the physical environment, and whether you are using the computer.

Battery charging is also affected by its temperature. The recommended temperature range for charging the

battery is between 10°C (50°F) and 35°C (95°F).

Note:

To maximize the life of the battery, once the battery is fully charged, it must discharge to 94% or lower

before it will be allowed to recharge again.

Check the battery temperature

You can check the battery temperature in Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo PC Manager.

Step 1. Open Lenovo Vantage.

Step 2. Click Device ➙ MY DEVICE SETTINGS ➙ SEE BATTERY DETAILS to view the battery

temperature.

Note: If you’re using Lenovo PC Manager, select System hardware ➙ Battery.

Set power button behavior

By default, pressing the power button puts the computer to sleep mode. However, you can change the

power button behavior in Windows Control Panel.

Step 1. Type Control Panel in the Windows search box and then press Enter. Open the control panel and

view by large or small icons.

Step 2. Select the power options and then click choose what the power button does.

Change or create a power plan

A power plan is a set of power saving settings. You can choose a pre-defined power plan or you can create

your own plans.

Step 1. Type power plan in the Windows search box and then press Enter.

Step 2. Customize a power plan of your preference.

Set performance mode

Your computer can work in different performance modes. The performance and power consumption of the

computer vary in different performance modes. Press Fn + Q to cycle through different performance modes.

Change settings in UEFI/BIOS setup utility

This section introduces what is UEFI/BIOS and the operations you can perform in its setup utility.

What is UEFI/BIOS setup utility

UEFI/BIOS is the first program that runs when a computer starts. UEFI/BIOS initializes hardware components

and loads the operating system and other programs. Your computer may include a setup program (setup

utility) with which you can change certain UEFI/BIOS settings.

Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility

Step 1. Turn on or restart the computer.

Step 2. When the Lenovo logo appears on the screen, press F2 repeatedly.

Note: For computers with hotkey mode enabled, press Fn + F2.

Change the startup sequence

You may need to change the startup sequence to allow the computer to start from another device or a

network location.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 2. Navigate to the Boot menu.

Step 3. Follow on-screen instructions to change the order of devices under Boot Priority Order.

Note: You can also change startup sequence temporarily without opening the setup utility. To do so, start

the computer. When the Lenovo logo appears, press F12 (or Fn + F12) repeatedly.

Change hotkey mode

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 2. Select Configuration ➙ Hotkey Mode and press Enter.

Step 3. Change the setting to Disabled or Enabled.

Step 4. Select Exit ➙ Exit Saving Changes.

Enable or disable always-on

For some Lenovo computers with always-on connectors, the always-on function can be enabled or disabled

in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 2. Select Configuration ➙ Always On USB and press Enter.

Step 3. Change the setting to Disabled or Enabled.

Set passwords in UEFI/BIOS setup utility

This section introduces the types of passwords that you can set in the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware

Interface) or BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) setup utility.

You can set various types of passwords in the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Attention: If you forget the administrator password, a Lenovo authorized service personnel cannot reset

your password. You must take your computer to a Lenovo authorized service personnel to have the system

board replaced. Proof of purchase is required and a fee will be charged for parts and service.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 2. Select Security ➙ Set Administrator Password and press Enter.

Step 3. Enter a password string that contains only letters and numbers and then press Enter

Step 4. Enter the password again and press Enter.

Step 5. Select Exit ➙ Exit Saving Changes.

Next time you start the computer, you must enter the administrator password to open the setup utility. If

Power on Password is enabled, you must enter the administrator password or the user password to start

the computer.

Change or remove administrator password

Only the administrator can change or remove the administrator password.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility using the administrator password.

Step 2. Select Security ➙ Set Administrator Password and press Enter.

Step 3. Enter the current password.

Step 4. In the Enter New Password text box, enter the new password.

Step 5. In the Confirm New Password text box, enter the new password again.

Note: If you want to remove the password, press Enter in both text boxes without entering any

character.

Step 6. Select Exit ➙ Exit Saving Changes.

If you remove the administrator password, the user password is also removed.

Set user password

You must set the administrator password before you can set the user password.

The administrator of the setup utility might need to set a user password for use by others.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility using the administrator password.

Step 2. Select Security ➙ Set User Password and press Enter.

Step 3. Enter a password string that contains only letters and numbers and then press Enter. The user

password must be different from the administrator password.

Step 4. Enter the password again and press Enter.

Step 5. Select Exit ➙ Exit Saving Changes.

Enable power-on password

If the administrator password has been set, you can enable power-on password to enforce greater security.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 4. Select Exit ➙ Exit Saving Changes.

If power-on password is enabled, a prompt appears on the screen every time you turn on the computer. You

must enter the administrator or user password to start the computer.

Set hard disk password

You can set a hard disk password in the setup utility to prevent unauthorized access to your data.

Attention: Be extremely careful when setting a hard disk password. If you forget the hard disk password, a

Lenovo authorized service personnel cannot reset your password or recover data from the hard disk. You

must take your computer to a Lenovo authorized service personnel to have the hard disk drive replaced.

Proof of purchase is required and a fee will be charged for parts and service.

Step 1. Open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility.

Step 2. Select Security ➙ Set Hard Disk Password and press Enter.

Note: If you start the setup utility using the user password, you cannot set hard disk password.

What is a CRU?

Customer replaceable units (CRUs) are parts that can be upgraded or replaced by the customer. A Lenovo

computer may contain the following types of CRUs:

Self-service CRU Parts that can be installed or replaced easily by

customer themselves or by trained service

Optional-service CRU Parts that can be installed or replaced by customers

Customer safety is important. Our products are developed to be safe and effective. However, personal

computers are electronic devices. Power cords, power adapters, and other features can create potential

safety risks that can result in physical injury or property damage, especially if misused. To reduce these risks,

follow the instructions included with your product, observe all warnings on the product and in the operating

instructions, and review the information included in this document carefully. By carefully following the

information contained in this document and provided with your product, you can help protect yourself from

hazards and create a safer computer work environment.

rest, and some other parts may become hot. The temperature they reach

discomfort or even a skin burn.

• Avoid keeping your hands, your lap, or any other part of your body in

contact with a hot section of the computer for any extended time.

• Periodically take hands from using the keyboard by lifting your hands from

the palm rest.

Protect yourself from the heat generated by the ac power adapter.

When the ac power adapter is connected to an electrical outlet and your

computer, it generates heat.

Extended contact with your body, even through clothing, may cause a skin

burn.

• Do not place the ac power adapter in contact with any part of your body

while it is in use.

• Never use it to warm your body.

• Do not wrap the cords around the ac power adapter while in use.

Prevent your computer from getting wet.

To avoid spills and the danger of electrical shock, keep liquids away from your

Protect the cables from being damaged.

Applying strong force to cables may damage or break them.

Route communication lines, or the cables of an ac power adapter, a mouse, a

keyboard, a printer, or any other electronic device, so that they cannot be

walked on, tripped over, pinched by your computer or other objects, or in any

Protect your computer and data when moving it.

Before moving a computer equipped with a hard disk drive, do one of the

following:

• Turn it off.

• Put it in sleep mode.

• Put it in hibernation mode.

This helps to prevent damage to the computer, and possible loss of data.

Handle your computer gently.

Do not drop, bump, scratch, twist, hit, vibrate, push, or place heavy objects on

your computer, display, or external devices.

Carry your computer carefully.

• Use a quality carrying case that provides adequate cushioning and protection.

• Before putting your computer in a carrying case, make sure that it is off, in sleep

mode, or in hibernation mode. Do not put a computer in a carrying case while it is

turned on.

Conditions that require immediate action

Products can become damaged due to misuse or neglect. Some product damage is serious enough

that the product should not be used again until it has been inspected and, if necessary, repaired by an

authorized servicer.

As with any electronic device, pay close attention to the product when it is turned on.

On very rare occasions, you might notice an odor or see a puff of smoke or sparks vent from your

product. Or you might hear sounds like popping, cracking, or hissing. These might merely mean that

an internal electronic component has failed in a safe and controlled manner. Or, they might indicate a

potential safety issue. Do not take risks or attempt to diagnose the situation yourself. Contact the

substances on the battery.

• A cracking, hissing, or popping sound, or strong odor that comes from the product.

• Signs that liquid has been spilled or an object has fallen onto the computer product, the power cord, or

power adapter.

• The computer product, power cord, or power adapter has been exposed to water.

• The product has been dropped or damaged in any way.

• The product does not operate normally when you follow the operating instructions.

Note: If you notice these conditions with a product (such as an extension cord) that is not manufactured for

or by Lenovo, stop using that product until you can contact the product manufacturer for further instructions,

or until you get a suitable replacement.

Service and upgrades

Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instructed to do so by the Customer Support Center or

your documentation. Only use a Service Provider who is approved to repair your particular product.

Note: Some computer parts can be upgraded or replaced by the customer. Upgrades typically are referred

to as options. Replacement parts approved for customer installation are referred to as Customer

Replaceable Units, or CRUs. Lenovo provides documentation with instructions when it is appropriate for

customers to install options or replace CRUs. You must closely follow all instructions when installing or

replacing parts. The Off state of a power indicator does not necessarily mean that voltage levels inside a

product are zero. Before you remove the covers from a product equipped with a power cord, always ensure

that the power is turned off and that the product is unplugged from any power source. If you have any

questions or concerns, contact the Customer Support Center.

Although there are no moving parts in your computer after the power cord has been disconnected, the

following warnings are required for your safety.

Keep fingers and other parts of your body away from hazardous, moving parts. If you suffer an injury, seek

medical care immediately.

Avoid contact with hot components inside the computer. During operation, some components become hot

enough to burn the skin. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer, disconnect power, and

wait approximately 10 minutes for the components to cool.

After replacing a CRU, reinstall all protective covers, including the computer cover, before connecting power

and operating the computer. This action is important to help prevent unexpected electrical shock and help

ensure the containment of an unexpected fire that could happen under extremely rare conditions.

When replacing CRUs, be cautious of sharp edges or corners that might cause injury. If you suffer an injury,

seek medical care immediately.

Power cords and power adapters

DANGER

Use only the power cords and power adapters supplied by the product manufacturer.

The power cords shall be safety approved. For Germany, it shall be H03VV-F, 3G, 0.75 mm2, or

better. For other countries, the suitable types shall be used accordingly.

Never wrap a power cord around a power adapter or other object. Doing so can stress the cord in

ways that can cause the cord to fray, crack, or crimp. This can present a safety hazard.

Always route power cords so that they will not be walked on, tripped over, or pinched by objects.

Protect power cords and power adapters from liquids. For instance, do not leave your power cord

or power adapter near sinks, tubs, toilets, or on floors that are cleaned with liquid cleansers. Liquids

can cause a short circuit, particularly if the power cord or power adapter has been stressed by

misuse. Liquids also can cause gradual corrosion of power cord terminals and/or the connector

terminals on a power adapter, which can eventually result in overheating.

Ensure that all power cord connectors are securely and completely plugged into receptacles.

Do not use any power adapter that shows corrosion at the ac input pins or shows signs of

overheating (such as deformed plastic) at the ac input pins or anywhere on the power adapter.

Do not use any power cords where the electrical contacts on either end show signs of corrosion or

overheating or where the power cord appears to have been damaged in any way.

To prevent possible overheating, do not cover the power adapter with clothing or other objects

when the power adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.

Extension cords and related devices

Ensure that extension cords, surge protectors, uninterruptible power supplies, and power strips that you use

are rated to handle the electrical requirements of the product. Never overload these devices. If power strips

are used, the load should not exceed the power strip input rating. Consult an electrician for more information

if you have questions about power loads, power requirements, and input ratings.

Plugs and outlets

DANGER

If a receptacle (power outlet) that you intend to use with your computer equipment appears to be

damaged or corroded, do not use the outlet until it is replaced by a qualified electrician.

Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a

replacement.

Do not share an electrical outlet with other home or commercial appliances that draw large

amounts of electricity; otherwise, unstable voltage might damage your computer, data, or attached

devices.

Some products are equipped with a three-pronged plug. This plug fits only into a grounded

electrical outlet. This is a safety feature. Do not defeat this safety feature by trying to insert it into a

non-grounded outlet. If you cannot insert the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician for an

approved outlet adapter or to replace the outlet with one that enables this safety feature. Never

overload an electrical outlet. The overall system load should not exceed 80 percent of the branch

circuit rating. Consult an electrician for more information if you have questions about power loads

and branch circuit ratings.

Be sure that the power outlet you are using is properly wired, easily accessible, and located close to

the equipment. Do not fully extend power cords in a way that will stress the cords.

Be sure that the power outlet provides the correct voltage and current for the product you are

installing.

Carefully connect and disconnect the equipment from the electrical outlet.

Power supply statement

Never remove the cover on a power supply or any part that has the following label attached.

Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside any component that has this label attached.

There are no serviceable parts inside these components. If you suspect a problem with one of these parts,

contact a service technician.

External devices

CAUTION:

Do not connect or disconnect any external device cables other than Universal Serial Bus (USB) and

1394 cables while the computer power is on; otherwise, you might damage your computer. To avoid

possible damage to attached devices, wait at least five seconds after the computer is shut down to

disconnect external devices.

Batteries supplied by Lenovo for use with your product have been tested for compatibility and

should only be replaced with approved parts. A battery other than the one specified by Lenovo, or a

disassembled or modified battery is not covered by the warranty.

Battery abuse or mishandling can cause overheating, liquid leakage, or an explosion. To avoid

possible injury, follow these instructions:

• Do not open, disassemble, or service any battery.

• Do not crush or puncture the battery.

• Do not short-circuit the battery, or expose it to water or other liquids.

• Keep the battery away from children.

• Keep the battery away from fire.

Stop using the battery if it is damaged, or if you notice any discharge or the buildup of foreign

materials on the battery leads.

Store the rechargeable batteries or products containing rechargeable batteries at room

temperature, with batteries charged to approximately 30%–50% of the full capacity. We recommend

that the batteries be charged at least once per year to prevent over-discharging.

Do not put the battery in trash that is disposed of in landfills. When disposing of the battery, comply

with local ordinances or regulations.

Notice for built-in rechargeable battery

DANGER

Do not attempt to remove or replace the built-in rechargeable battery. Replacement of the battery

must be done by a Lenovo-authorized repair facility or technician.

Only recharge the battery strictly according to instructions included in the product documentation.

The Lenovo-authorized repair facilities or technicians recycle Lenovo batteries according to local

laws and regulations.

Lithium coin-cell battery notice

Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced.

If the coin-cell battery is not a CRU, do not attempt to replace the coin-cell battery. Replacement of

When replacing the lithium coin-cell battery, use only the same type or equivalent type that is recommended

by the manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed

Heat and product ventilation

DANGER

Computers, ac power adapters, and many accessories can generate heat when turned on and when

batteries are charging. Notebook computers can generate a significant amount of heat due to their

compact size. Always follow these basic precautions:

• When your computer is turned on or the battery is charging, the base, the palm rest, and some

other parts may become hot. Avoid keeping your hands, your lap, or any other part of your body

in contact with a hot section of the computer for any extended length of time. When you use the

keyboard, avoid keeping your palms on the palm rest for a prolonged period of time. Your

computer generates some heat during normal operation. The amount of heat depends on the

amount of system activity and the battery charge level. Extended contact with your body, even

through clothing, could cause discomfort or even a skin burn. Periodically take breaks from using

the keyboard by lifting your hands from the palm rest; and be careful not to use the keyboard for

any extended length of time.

• Do not operate your computer or charge the battery near flammable materials or in explosive

environments.

• Ventilation slots, fans and/or heat sinks are provided with the product for safety, comfort, and

reliable operation. These features might inadvertently become blocked by placing the product on

a bed, sofa, carpet, or other flexible surface. Never block, cover, or disable these features.

• When the ac power adapter is connected to an electrical outlet and your computer, it generates

heat. Do not place the adapter in contact with any part of your body while using it. Never use the

ac power adapter to warm your body. Extended contact with your body, even through clothing,

may cause a skin burn.

For your safety, always follow these basic precautions with your computer:

• Keep the cover closed whenever the computer is plugged in.

• Regularly inspect the outside of the computer for dust accumulation.

• Remove dust from vents and any perforations in the bezel. More frequent cleanings might be

required for computers in dusty or high-traffic areas.

• Do not restrict or block any ventilation openings.

• Do not operate your computer inside furniture, as this might increase the risk of overheating.

• Airflow temperatures into the computer should not exceed 35°C (95°F).

To avoid a shock hazard:

• Do not use your computer during a lightning storm.

• Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet.

• Connect properly wired outlets to any equipment that will be attached to this product.

• Whenever possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.

• Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural damage.

• Disconnect the attached power cords, battery, and all the cables before you open the device

covers, unless instructed otherwise in the installation and configuration procedures.

• Do not use your computer until all internal parts enclosures are fastened into place. Never use

Liquid crystal display (LCD) notice

CAUTION:

The liquid crystal display (LCD) is made of glass, and rough handling or dropping the computer can

cause the LCD to break. If the LCD breaks and the internal fluid gets into your eyes or on your hands,

immediately wash the affected areas with water for at least 15 minutes; if any symptoms are present

after washing, get medical care.

Note: For products with mercury-containing fluorescent lamps (for example, non-LED), the fluorescent lamp

in the liquid crystal display (LCD) contains mercury; dispose of according to local, state, or federal laws.

Using headphones or earphones

Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. Adjustment of the

equalizer to maximum increases the earphone and headphone output voltage and the sound pressure level.

Therefore, to protect your hearing, adjust the equalizer to an appropriate level.

Excessive use of headphones or earphones for a long period of time at high volume can be dangerous if the

output of the headphone or earphone connectors do not comply with specifications of EN 50332-2. The

headphone output connector of your computer complies with EN 50332-2 Sub clause 7. This specification

limits the computer’s maximum wide band true RMS output voltage to 150 mV. To help protect against

hearing loss, ensure that the headphones or earphones you use also comply with EN 50332-2 (Clause 7

limits) for a wide band characteristic voltage of 75 mV. Using headphones that do not comply with EN 50332-

2 can be dangerous due to excessive sound pressure levels.

If your Lenovo computer came with headphones or earphones in the package, as a set, the combination of

the headphones or earphones and the computer already complies with the specifications of EN 50332-1. If

different headphones or earphones are used, ensure that they comply with EN 50332-1 (Clause 6.5

Limitation Values). Using headphones that do not comply with EN 50332-1 can be dangerous due to

excessive sound pressure levels.

• Prevent others from touching components.

• When you install a static-sensitive option or CRU, touch the static-protective package containing the part

to a metal expansion-slot cover or other unpainted metal surface on the computer for at least two

seconds. This reduces static electricity in the package and your body.

• When possible, remove the static-sensitive part from the static-protective packaging and install the part

without setting it down. When this is not possible, place the static-protective packaging on a smooth, level

surface and place the part on it.

the display screen clean and set the brightness to levels that enable you to see the screen clearly. Press the

brightness control keys to adjust display brightness.

Head position: Keep your head and neck in a comfortable and neutral (vertical, or upright) position.

Chair: Use a chair that gives you good back support and seat height adjustment. Use chair adjustments to

best suit your comfort posture.

Arm and hand position: If available, use chair arm rests or an area on your working surface to provide

weight support for your arms. Keep your forearms, wrists, and hands in a relaxed and neutral (horizontal)

position. Type with a soft touch without pounding the keys.

Leg position: Keep your thighs parallel to the floor and your feet flat on the floor or on a footrest.

What if you are traveling?

It might not be possible to observe the best ergonomic practices when you are using your computer while on

the move or in a casual setting. Regardless of the setting, try to observe as many of the tips as possible.
