Pixel characteristics
This LCD product has a high number of
colour pixels. Although it has effective pixels of
99.999% or more, black dots or bright points of
light (red, green or blue) may appear constantly
on the screen. This is a structural property of
the display (within common industry standards)
and is not a malfunction.

Mains fuse (UK only)
This TV is fitted with an approved moulded
plug. Should it become necessary to replace
the mains fuse, this must be replaced with a
fuse of the same value as indicated on the plug
(example 10A).
1 Remove fuse cover and fuse.
2 The replacement fuse must comply with
BS 1362 and have the ASTA approval
mark. If the fuse is lost, contact your
dealer in order to verify the correct type.
3 Refit the fuse cover.
In order to maintain conformity to the EMC
directive, the mains plug on this product must
not be detached from the mains cord cable.

Risk of injury or damage to the TV or disc
player!
Two people are required to lift and carry •
a TV that weighs more than 25 kg.
When stand mounting the TV, use only •
the supplied stand. Secure the stand to
the TV tightly. Place the TV on a flat, level
surface that can support the combined
weight of the TV and the stand.
When wall mounting the TV, use only a •
wall mount that can support the weight of
the TV. Secure the wall mount to a wall
that can support the combined weight of
the TV and wall mount. Koninklijke Philips
Electronics N.V. bears no responsibility
for improper wall mounting that result in
accident, injury or damage.
Visible and invisible laser radiation when •
open. Avoid exposure to the beam.
Do not touch the disc optical lens inside •
the disc compartment.
Risk of injury to children!
Follow these precautions to prevent the
TV from toppling over and causing injury to
children:
Never place the TV on a surface covered •
by a cloth or other material that can be
pulled away.
Ensure that no part of the TV hangs over •
the edge of the surface.
Never place the TV on tall furniture (such •
as a bookcase) without anchoring both
the furniture and TV to the wall or a
suitable support.

batteries near naked flames or other heat

To prevent the spread of fire, keep
candles or other flames away from the
TV, remote control and batteries at all
times.
Never insert objects into the ventilation •
slots or other openings on the TV.
When the TV is swivelled ensure that •
no strain is exerted on the power cord.
Strain on the power cord can loosen
connections and cause arcing.
Where the mains plug or an appliance •
coupler is used as the disconnect device,
the disconnect device shall remain readily

Disposal of your old product and
batteries

images, reduce screen contrast and
brightness to avoid screen damage.

When using the remote control, hold it close
to the TV and point it at the remote control
sensor. Make sure that the line-of-sight
between the remote control and TV is not
blocked by furniture, walls or other objects.

5 Play a disc
This section describes the basic operations of
the disc player in the TV.
Note
You can only insert a disc into the disc •
compartment when the TV is in disc mode.
Play a disc
The TV can play a wide variety of discs,
including video, audio and mixed media (for
example, a CD-R that contains JPEG pictures
and MP3 music).
1 Press .
The menu screen appears. »
2 Press to select [Play disc], then
press OK.
The TV switches to the disc source. »
3 Insert a disc into the disc compartment.

Several advanced features are available for
video or picture playback from a disc.
Play a musical slideshow
Play music and pictures simultaneously to
create a musical slideshow. The files must be
stored on the same disc.
1 Press , then select [Play disc].
2 Select a music track, then press OK.
3 Press to return to the previous page.
4 Select a picture from a picture folder,
then press OK to start slideshow.
5 Press to stop slideshow.
Photo browser view appears. »
6 Press DISC MENU to return to file
browser view.
7 Press again to stop music.
Quick skip play to a specific time
Quick skip to a specific part of a video by
entering the time of a scene.
1 During video play, press GOTO.
2 Select one of the following settings, then
press OK:
• [TT time]: Accesses the title time.
• [CH time]: Accesses the chapter
time.
3 Press the Numeric buttons to enter the
specific time.
Playback skips to the selected time. »
4 Press GOTO to exit.
Use picture options
Access several useful features while viewing
pictures.

Change general settings
1 Press DVD SETUP.
2 Select [General setup], then press OK.
3 Select and adjust the following settings,
and then press OK to confirm:
• [TV display]: Selects a picture display
format to fit the TV screen (only available
when the disc is not playing).
• [4:3 Panascan]: For 4:3 screen TV.
Full-height display with trimmed
sides.
• [4:3 Letter Box]: For 4:3 screen TV.
Wide-screen display with black bars
on the top and bottom of the screen.
• [16:9]: For wide-screen TV. The
display ratio 16:9.
• [Menu language]: Selects the on-
screen display menu language. Due to
specification differences, the number
of menu languages available on the disc
player varies from that on the TV.
• [Screen saver]: Enables or disables screen
saver mode. If enabled, the screen enters
idle mode after 5 minutes of inactivity (for
example, in pause or stop mode).
• [Disc lock]: Selects [On] to lock the disc
in the disc compartment. If locked, you
need to enter the password to access the
disc every time you play the locked disc.
If you forget your password, enter ‘8888’
to reset.
• [Last memory]: Enables or disables last
memory option. If enabled, the player
automatically resumes play from the last
stop point.
Note
Press • DVD SETUP to exit menu.
Switch camera angles
This feature is only available for DVDs
recorded with multiple camera angles. This
allows you to view the picture from different
angles.
1 During video play, press GOTO.
2 Select [Angle], then press OK.
3 Press the Numeric buttons to select the
available camera angles.
Playback skips to the selected angle. »
4 Press GOTO to exit.
Change settings
This section helps you to change the settings of
the disc player.
Caution
Most of the settings are already configured •
with the best value for the disc player. Unless
you have a specific reason to change a setting,
it is best to leave it at the default value.
Access the setup menu
1 Press DVD SETUP.
2 Press to navigate through the
following menus:
• [General setup]: Accesses general
settings of the disc player.
• [Audio setup]: Accesses audio
settings of the disc player.
• [Preference]: Customises your
preferred settings.
3 Select a setup menu, then press OK.
See the following sections for information
about how to change the settings of the
disc player.
4 Press DVD SETUP to exit.
Note
You cannot change a setting that is greyed out. •
If you select an output that is not available on •
the disc, the default setting is used.

• [Password setup]: Sets or changes a PIN

Use timers
You can set timers to switch the TV to standby

Sleep timer switches the TV to standby after a
pre-defined period of time.

You can switch off your TV earlier or reset the •
sleep timer during the countdown.

Use subtitles
You can enable subtitles for each TV channel.
Subtitles are broadcast via teletext or DVB-T
digital broadcasts. With digital broadcasts, you
can select a subtitle language.
Enable subtitles on analogue TV
channels
1 Select an analogue TV channel.
2 Press TELETEXT.
3 Enter the three-digit page number of the
subtitle page with the Numeric buttons.
4 Press TELETEXT to switch off teletext.
5 Press SUBTITLE.
The »[Subtitle mode] menu appears.
6 Select [On] to display subtitles always or
[On during mute] to display subtitles only
when audio is muted.
7 Press OK to enable subtitles.

Use the preferences menu to customise your
TV settings.

• [Volume bar]: Displays the volume

• [Channel Information]: Displays
information about the TV channel

information or [Off] to turn off the
channel information.
• [Universal access]: Enables or
disables the universal access menu.
• [EasyLink]: Enables one-touch play

EasyLink-compliant devices.
• [Pixel Plus Link]: Overrides the
settings of connected devices and
uses the settings of the TV. (Available
only when you activate Easylink).
• [E-sticker]: For shop mode only. Sets
the location of the e-sticker.

Update using OAD
1 If using (DVB-T) digital broadcast, your
TV automatically receives software
updates. If you receive a message on
your screen asking you to update your
software:
Select • [Update now] to update the
software immediately.
Select • [Remind me later] to exit the
update screen at that time and be
reminded later.
Select • [Cancel] to skip the update.
2 If you select [Cancel], you can manually
access the OAD update by selecting
[Setup] > [Software update] > [Local
updates] > [OAD].
3 Select the available version of OAD and
press OK.
4 Follow the on-screen instructions to start

Start a TV demo
You can use demonstrations to better
understand the features of your TV. Some
demos are not available on certain models.
Available demos are displayed in the menu list.
1 Press DEMO on the remote control.
2 Press to select a demo and press OK
to view it.

Reset the TV to factory
settings
You can restore the default picture and sound
settings of your TV. The channel installation
settings remain the same.
1 Press .
2 Select [Setup] > [Installation] > [Factory
settings].
3 Press to enter [Factory settings].
4 Select [Reset] to start resetting.
5 Press OK.
6 Press to exit.
Access decoder channel
You can map channels provided through a
decoder or descrambler to your TV channel
selection. In this way, you can select these
channels by using the RC of your TV. The
decoder or a descrambler must be connected
to EXT1 (SCART).
Set decoder channel
Map channels from a decoder or descrambler.
1 Press .
2 Select [Setup] > [Installation] >
[Decoder].
3 Press to enter [Decoder] menu.
4 Press to select [Channel], then press

5 Select one channel to map to the

Test digital reception
You can check the quality and signal strength
of digital channels. This allows you to reposition
and test your antenna or satellite dish.

the channel you want to test.

Rename channels
You can rename channels. The name appears
when you select the channel.

2 Select the channel to rename.

Press • [Aa] to change an uppercase letter to a

Rearrange channels
After you install channels, you can rearrange the
order in which they appear.

A Conditional Access Module (CAM) is

decode digital TV channels.
Note

operator on how to insert a smart card into
the Conditional Access Module.
Insert and activate a CAM
Caution
Be sure to follow the instructions described •
below. Wrong insertion of a CAM may
damage both the CAM and your TV.
1 Switch off the TV and disconnect it from
the power outlet.
2 Following the directions printed on the
CAM, gently insert the CAM into the
COMMON INTERFACE at the side of
the TV.
3 Push the CAM in as far as it will go.
4 Reconnect the TV to the power outlet.
5 Turn on the TV and wait for the CAM
to be activated. This may take several
minutes. Do not remove the CAM from
the slot when in use — removing the
CAM will deactivate digital services.

Use one-touch play
1 After enabling EasyLink, press play on
your device.
The TV automatically switches to the »
correct source.
Use one-touch standby
1 Press (Standby-On) on the TV’s or
device’s remote control.
The TV and all connected HDMI »
devices switch to standby.
Set TV speakers to EasyLink mode
When you play content from an EasyLink
compliant home theater, the TV speakers are
automatically muted.
1 Enable one-touch play and one-touch
standby between your Easylink compliant
devices by following the instructions
in the previous section (see ‘Enable or
disable EasyLink’ on page 39).
2 Press .
3 Press to select [Setup] > [Sound]
> [TV speakers] > [Auto EasyLink].
The TV speakers are turned off »
automatically when content from an
Easylink compliant system is detected.
4 Press to select [Setup] > [Sound]
> [TV speakers] > [On] to disable
system audio control and enable the TV
speakers.

To mute the TV speakers, select • [TV

Use Philips EasyLink
Your TV supports Philips EasyLink, which
uses the HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics
Control) protocol. EasyLink-compliant devices
that are connected through HDMI connectors
can be controlled by a single remote control.
Note
The EasyLink-compliant device must be •
switched on and selected as the source.
Philips does not guarantee 100%
•
interoperability with all HDMI CEC devices.
EasyLink features
One-touch play
When you connect your TV to devices that
support one-touch play, you can control your
TV and the devices with one remote control.
One-touch standby
When you connect your TV to devices that
support standby, you can use your TV remote
control to put your TV and all connected
HDMI devices in standby mode.
System audio control
When you connect your TV to HDMI
CEC compliant devices, your TV can
switch automatically to play audio from the
connected device.
To use one-touch audio, you must map the
audio input from the connected device to
your TV.
You can use the remote control from the
connected device to adjust the volume.

TV channel issues
Previously installed channels do not appear in
the channel list:
Check that the correct channel list is •

No digital channels were found during the

Picture issues
The TV is on, but there is no picture:

connected to the TV.
Check that the correct device is selected •
as the TV source.
Check that the TV is switched to the disc •
source. Press , then select [Play disc].
There is sound but no picture:
Check that the picture settings are •
correctly set.
There is poor TV reception from an antenna
connection:
Check that the antenna is properly •
connected to the TV.
Loudspeakers, unearthed audio devices, •
neon lights, high buildings and other large
objects can influence reception quality.
If possible, try to improve the reception
quality by changing the antenna direction
or moving devices away from the TV.
If reception on only one channel is poor, •
fine tune this channel.
10 Troubleshooting
This section describes commonly encountered
issues and accompanying solutions.
General issues
The TV does not switch on:
Disconnect the power cable from the •
power outlet. Wait for one minute then
reconnect it.
Check that the power cable is securely •
connected.
The remote control is not working properly:
Aim the remote control directly at the •
sensor on the front panel.
Check that the remote control batteries •
are correctly inserted according to the
+/- orientation.
Replace the remote control batteries if •
they are flat or weak.
Clean the remote control and TV sensor •
lens.
The standby light on the TV blinks red:
Disconnect the power cable from the •
power outlet. Wait until the TV cools
down before reconnecting the power
cable. If the blinking reoccurs, contact
Philips Consumer Care.
You forgot the code to unlock the lock
feature.
Enter ‘8888’. •
The TV menu is in the wrong language.
Change the TV menu to your preferred •
language.
When turning the TV on / off / to standby, you
hear a creaking sound from the TV chassis:
No action is required. The creaking sound •
is normal expansion and contraction of
the TV as it cools down and warms up.
This does not impact performance.

Disc player issues
Disc cannot be played.
Clean the disc. •
Check that the disc player supports the •
disc format.
Check that the disc player supports the •
region code of the DVD.
For DVD±RW or DVD±R, ensure that •
the disc is finalised.
Check that the disc is inserted correctly, •
with the disc label facing up.
The menu of the disc player does not appear
when the disc is ejected.
Press • or SOURCE to access the
main menu.
No response from the disc player.
The operation is not possible. Check the •
instructions on the disc.
HDMI connection issues
There are problems with HDMI devices:
Note that HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital •
Content Protection) support can delay
the time taken for a TV to display content
from a HDMI device.
If the TV does not recognize the HDMI •
device and no picture is displayed, try
switching the source from one device to
another and back again.
If there are intermittent sound •
disruptions, check that output settings
from the HDMI device are correct.
If you use an HDMI-to-DVI adapter •
or HDMI-to-DVI cable, check that an
additional audio cable is connected to
AUDIO (mini-jack only).
There is poor picture quality from connected
devices:
Check that the devices are connected •
properly.
Check that the picture settings are •
correctly set.
The TV did not save your picture settings:
Check that the TV location is set to the •
home setting. This mode offers you the
flexibility to change and save settings.
The picture does not fit the screen; it is too
big or too small:
Try using a different picture format. •
The picture position is incorrect:
Picture signals from some devices may •
not fit the screen correctly. Check the
signal output of the device.
Cannot remove ‘e-sticker’ banner displayed on
the TV.
To remove the logos and images, set the •
location of your TV to home.
1. Press .
2. Select [Setup] > [Installation] >
[Preferences] > [Location].
3. Select [Home] and press OK.
Sound issues
There is a picture but sound quality is poor:
Note
If no audio signal is detected, the TV •
automatically switches the audio output off
— this does not indicate malfunction.
Check that all cables are properly •
connected.
Check that the volume is not set to 0. •
Check that the sound is not muted. •
There is a picture but the sound quality is
poor:
Check that the sound settings are •
correctly set.
There is a picture but sound comes from one
speaker only:
Verify that sound balance is set to the •
centre.

The computer display on the TV is not stable:
Check that your PC uses the supported •
resolution and refresh rate.
