3 Get started
Always follow the instructions in this chapter in
sequence.
If you contact the Consumer Care, you will
be asked for the model and serial number of
this apparatus. The model number and serial
number are on the bottom of the product.

Activate the battery
Caution
•Risk of explosion! Keep batteries away from heat,
sunshineorre.Neverdiscardbatteriesinre.
•Risk of product damage! When the apparatus is not
used for long periods, remove the battery.
•Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should
be disposed of properly.
Remove the protective tab to activate the
battery.
To replace the battery:
1 Open the battery compartment.
2 Insert one lithium CR2025 battery with
correct polarity (+/-) as indicated.
3 Close the battery compartment.
Connect power
Caution
•Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply
voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back
or the underside of the apparatus.
•Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC power
adapter, always pull the plug from the socket. Never
pull the cord.
•Before connecting the AC power adapter, ensure you
have completed all other connections.

1 Connect the power adapter to
• the DC IN (DC 5V) jack on the back
of the main unit, and
• the power socket.
Set time and date
1 In clock mode, press and hold SET TIME/
PROG for 2 seconds.
2 Press PRESET +/PRESET -.
» 12-hour or 24-hour format is selected.
3 Press SET TIME/PROGtoconrm.
» The hour digits begin to blink.
4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the hour.
5 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the minute.
6 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the year.
7 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the month.
8 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the day.
View the preset date
1 Press DATE repeatedly.
» The clock time, month, day and year
are displayed consequently.

4 Listen to radio
Tune to a radio station
1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to turn on the
radio.
» FM and the current radio frequency
appear.
2 Press +/- (on + TUNING -) repeatedly to
tune to a radio station.
Adjust the volume
1 Press +/- (on - VOLUME +) repeatedly.
Program radio stations

Note
•You can program a maximum of 20 preset radio
stations.
1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to turn on the
radio.
2 Press and hold SET TIME/PROG for 2
seconds.
» All available stations are programmed
in the order of waveband reception
strength.

1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to turn on the
radio.
2 Press +/- (on + TUNING -) repeatedly to
tune to a radio station.

4 Press PRESET +/PRESET - repeatedly to
select a preset number.
5 Press SET TIME/PROGtoconrm.
6 Repeat the above steps to program more
stations.
Tip
•To overwrite a programmed station, program another
station in its place.
Select a preset radio station
1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to turn on
radio.
2 Press PRESET +/PRESET - to select a
radio station.

5 Set the alarm
timer
Set the alarm time
You can set two alarms.
Note
•Before you start, ensure that the clock time is set
correctly.
1 Press and hold AL1 (or AL2) for 2
seconds.
2 Press PRESET +/PRESET -.
» The alarm tone is selected.
• FM: The preset radio station.
• : The buzz.
3 Press AL1 (or AL2)toconrm.
» The hour digits begin to blink.
4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the hour.
5 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the minute.
6 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the volume
level (32 maximum) of alarm tone.
Turn on/off the alarm timer
Note
•Ensure that you already set the alarms successfully.
1 Press AL1 or AL2 twice.
» If the alarm timer is turned on, or
appears.
» If the alarm timer is turned off, or
disappears.
View the alarm settings
1 Press AL1/AL2.
Repeat alarm
1 When the alarm rings, press REPEAT
ALARM/BRIGHTNESS CONTROL.
» The alarm repeats ringing 9 minutes
later.
Stop alarm ring
1 When the alarm rings, press the
corresponding AL1 or AL2.
» The alarm stops but the alarm settings
remain.

6 Other features
Set the sleep timer
You can set the radio to turn off automatically
after a certain period of time.
1 Press SLEEP repeatedly to select a preset
period of time.

» The volume decreases gradually in the
last 5 minutes.
To turn off the sleep timer:
1 Press SLEEP repeatedly until (off)
appears.

Adjust display brightness
1 Press REPEAT ALARM/BRIGHTNESS
CONTROL repeatedly.
Listen to an external device
You can use this unit to play audio from an
external device.
1 Connect the MP3 link cable to
• the MP3 LINK jack on the back of this
unit, and
• the audio output jack (usually the
headphone socket) of the external
device.
2 Press SOURCE repeatedly to select the
audio input from MP3 LINK jack.

Warning

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair
the product yourself.
If you encounter problems when using this
device, check the following points before
requesting service. If the problem remains
unsolved, go to the Philips Web page (www.
philips.com/support). When you contact the
Consumer Care, make sure that the product
is nearby and the model number and serial
number are available.
No power
• Ensure that the Mains cord is connected
securely.
• Ensure that there is power at the AC
Mains.
No sound
•Adjust the volume.
No response from the unit
•Disconnect and reconnect the AC power
plug, then turn on the unit again.
Poor radio reception
•Increase the distance between the
apparatus and your TV or VCR.
•Fully extend the antenna.
•Connect an outdoor antenna instead.
Timer does not work
•Set the clock correctly.
•Switch on the timer.
Clock/timer setting erased
•Replace the battery.
•Power has been interrupted or the power
plug has been disconnected.
•Reset the clock/timer.
