Safety information
• Before setting up the monitor, carefully read all the documentation that
came with the package.
• To prevent re or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or
moisture.
• Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages
inside the monitor may result in serious physical injury.
• If the power supply is broken, do not try to x it by yourself. Contact a
qualied service technician or your retailer.
• Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected
and the power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage,
contact your dealer immediately.
• Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for
ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or
over a radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided.
• The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source
indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to
your home, consult your dealer or local power company.
• Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power
standard.
• Do not overload power strips and extention cords. Overloading can
result in re or electric shock.
• Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the
monitor in any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a
stable surface.
• Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a
long period of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to
power surges.
• Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the
monitor cabinet.
• To ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed
computers which have appropriate congured receptacles marked
between 100-240V AC.
• If you encounter technical problems with the monitor, contact a
qualied service technician or your retailer.

Care & Cleaning
• Before you lift or reposition your monitor, it is better to disconnect the cables
and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the
monitor. When lifting or carrying the monitor, grasp the edges of the monitor.
Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord.
• Cleaning. Turn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor
surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed
with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner.
• Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended
for use with the LCD. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip
inside the monitor and cause an electric shock.
The following symptoms are normal with the monitor:
• The screen may icker during the initial use due to the nature of the uorescent
light. Turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the
icker disappears.
• You may nd slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the
desktop pattern you use.
• When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous
screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or
you can turn off the Power Switch for hours.
• When the screen becomes black or ashes, or cannot work anymore, contact
your dealer or service center to x it. Do not repair the screen by yourself!

1.3 Assembling the monitor base
To assemble the monitor base:
1. Attach the base to the arm and x with the screw to join them tightly.
You can easily tighten the screw by ngers.
2. Adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you.
We recommend that you cover the table surface with soft cloth to prevent
damage to the monitor.
Make sure to screw the base to the arm tightly.

1. QuickFit Button:
• This is a hotkey to activate the QuickFit function designed for
alignment.
• The QuickFit function contains 7 pages of common grid patterns,
paper sizes, and photo sizes.
2. , , Button:
• Automatically adjust the image to its optimized position, clock,
and phase by long pressing this button for 2-4 seconds (for VGA
mode only).
• Use this hotkey to switch from eight video preset modes
(Scenery Mode, Standard Mode, Theater Mode, Game Mode,
Night View Mode, sRGB Mode, Reading Mode and Darkroom
Mode) with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
• Exit the OSD menu or go back to the previous menu as the OSD
menu is active.

3. , Button:
• Decreases values or moves your selection left/down.
• Volume hotkey (only available in VX278Q/H models)
• Contrast hotkey (only available in VX278N models)
4. MENU Button:
• Press this button to enter the OSD menu.
• Press this button to enter/select the icon (function) highlighted
while the OSD is activated.
5. Button:
• Press this button to increase the value of the function selected or
move to the previous functions.
• This is also a hotkey for Brightness adjustment.
6. Input Select Button:
• Use this hotkey to switch from VGA, DVI (VX278N),HDMI
(VX278H/Q), DP (VX278Q) input signal.
7. Power Button/Power Indicator:
• Press this button to turn the monitor on/off.
• The color definition of the power indicator is as the below table.

1.5.3 QuickFit Function
The QuickFit function contains three patterns: (1) Grid (2) Paper size (3) Photo
size.
1. Grid patterns
The grid patterns facilitate designers and users to organize content and layout on a
page and achieve a consistent look and feel.

2-1 Chapter 2: Setup
2.1 Detaching the arm/stand
To detach the arm/stand:
1. Disconnect power and signal cables. Carefully put the front of the
monitor face down on a clean table.
2. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the stand to
the monitor.
3. Detach the stand from the monitor.
• We recommend that you cover the table surface with soft cloth to prevent
damage to the monitor.
• Hold the stand of the monitor while removing the screws.

2.2 Adjusting the monitor
• For optimal viewing, we recommend that you look at the full face of the
monitor, then adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you.
• Hold the stand to prevent the monitor from falling while changing its angle.
• You can adjust the monitor’s angle from -5˚ to 20˚.

1. Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu.
2. Press / and to navigate through the functions.
Highlight and activate the desired function by pressing the MENU
button. If the function selected has a sub-menu, press /
and again to navigate through the sub-menu functions. Highlight
and activate the desired sub-menu function by pressing the MENU
button.
3. Press / and to change the settings of the selected
function.
4. To exit the OSD menu, press the button. Repeat step 2 and step 3
to adjust any other function.

SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
• Game Mode: This is the best choice for game playing with
SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
• Night View Mode: This is the best choice for playing dark-scene
game or watching dark-scene movie with SPLENDID™ Video
Intelligence Technology.
• sRGB Mode: This is the best choice for viewing photos and graphics

• In the Standard Mode, the Saturation, SkinTone, Sharpness, and ASCR
functions are not user-congurable.

Certification. The Brightness function is not user-configurable.

Warm) and one User Mode.
• Skin Tone: Contains three color modes including Reddish, Natural, and

• Smart view: The versatile viewing positions with Smart View Technology
In the User Mode, colors of R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) are
userconfigurable; the adjusting range is from 0 ~ 100.

• Sharpness: Adjusts the picture sharpness. The adjusting range is from 0 to
100.
• Trace Free: Speeds up the response time by Over Drive technology. The
adjusting range is from lower 0 to faster 100.
• Aspect Control: Adjusts the aspect ratio to “Full”, “4:3”,“Overscan”.
• VividPixel: ASUS Exclusive Technology that brings lifelike visuals for
crystal-clear and detail-oriented enjoyment. The adjusting range is from 0
to 100.
• ASCR: Select ON or OFF to enable or disable dynamic contrast ratio
function.
• Position: Adjusts the horizontal position (H-Position) and the vertical
position (V-Position) of the image. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100
(Only available for VGA input).
• Focus: Reduces Horizonal-line noise and Vertical-line noise of the image
by adjusting (Phase) and (Clock) separately. The adjusting range is from
0 to 100 (Only available for VGA input).

• 4:3 is only available when input source is in 4:3 format. OverScan is
only available for the HDMI input source.
• Phase adjusts the phase of the pixel clock signal. With a wrong phase
adjustment, the screen shows horizontal disturbances.
• Clock (pixel frequency) controls the number of pixels scanned by one
horizontal sweep. If the frequency is not correct, the screen shows
vertical stripes and the image is not proportional.

• Splendid Demo Mode: Activate the demo mode for the Splendid function.
• Volume: Adjust the earphone or speaker output volume level. The adjusting
range is from 0 to 100.(Only for VX278H/Q.)
• GamePlus: The GamePlus Function provides a toolkit and creates a better
gaming environment for users when playing different types of games.
Particularly, Aimpoint function is specially designed for new gamers or
beginners interested in First Person Shooter (FPS) games.
To active GamePlus:
• Select ON to enter the GamePlus main menu.
• Press and to select between Aimpoint and Timer function.
• Press to conrm the function you choose. Press to go back.
Press to go off, and exit.

US version OSD are: English, Traditional Chinese , Simplified Chinese,
Japanese , Persian, Thai and Indonesian; The selections for EU and
US version OSD are: English, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish,
Russian, Poland, Turkey, Portugal, Czech, Croatia, Hungary, Romania
• Information: Displays the monitor information.
• All Reset: Selects “Yes” to revert all settings to the factory default mode.

3.3 Troubleshooting (FAQ)
Problem Possible Solution
Power LED is not ON • Press the button to check if the monitor is in the
ON mode.
• Check if the power cord is properly connected to the
monitor and the power outlet.
The power LED lights amber and
there is no screen image
• Check if the monitor and the computer are in the
ON mode.
• Make sure the signal cable is properly connected
the monitor and the computer.
• Inspect the signal cable and make sure none of the
pins are bent.
• Connect the computer with another available
monitor to check if the computer is properly working.
Screen image is too light or dark • Adjust the Contrast and Brightness settings via
OSD.
Screen image is not centered or
sized properly • Press the button for two seconds to
automatically adjust the image.
• Adjust the H-Position or V-Position settings via
OSD.
Screen image bounces or a wave
pattern is present in the image
• Make sure the signal cable is properly connected to
the monitor and the computer.
• Move electrical devices that may cause electrical
interference.
Screen image has color defects
(white does not look white)
• Inspect the signal cable and make sure that none of
the pins are bent.
• Perform Reset via OSD.
• Adjust the R/G/B color settings or select the Color
Temperature via OSD.
Screen image is blurry or fuzzy • Press the button for two seconds to
automatically adjust the image (for VGA mode only).
• Adjust the Phase and Clock settings via OSD.
No sound or sond is low(Only for
VX278H/Q)
• Make sure the audio cable is properly connected to
the monitor.
• Adjust the volume settings of both your monitor and
computer.
• Make sure the computer sound card driver is
properly installed and activated.
